Valley of Ashes
"This is a valley of ashes-
A fantastic farm where ashes grow like wheat"
And DR T. J. Eckleburg you'll meet
Giant eyes rimmed by glasses
Watching over a field of ashes

People come watched by the eyes gaze
Willingly entering an affair
Unknowingly entering deaths lair
The path ahead obscured by life's haze
People go watched by the eyes gaze

Turned to dust by flame and fire
Through this valley journey the dead
From this world they are led
From this world of fame and liars
Turned to dust by flame and fires

Gatsby and Daisy
He bought his house so that he might,
See the girl with the green light
To his parties many do flock
Except the one from the end of the dock
Across the ocean, across the bay
Until along came Nick Carraway
For tea she came neath skies not blue
Then his dream at first came true
To his house she would come on a whim
Until she could not say "I never loved him"
From the hotel she did then flee
Then Daisy and Gatsby never could be

Gatsby's funeral
Gatsby's life, Gatsby's dream
Too soon it ended for him it does seem
Set to rest in a box six feet underground
No longer will he make a sound
The rain it falls and makes a stream
Then trickles down the mound
Then was heard as we left when Gatsby was gone
"blessed are the dead that the rain falls on"
He stood there standing by the gate
That in the end it is all our fate
That the past disappears with the new dawn
The chance to repeat comes moments too late

Amusement park parties
Bright lights strung in trees,
Lights to challenge the stars
Music playing loudly,
To drown out the oceans roar
People laughing, dancing, spinning,
To stop the flow of time
People come invite or none,
To happen upon their careless fun
And like the summer nights,
It all must come to an end

Face above the city
Face above the city sky
A single tear that it does cry
While below it on the ground
Lights are spinning round and round
Only for a moment, does it care
That it can do this does not seem fair
Face above the city sky
A single tear that it does cry
While below it on the ground
Lights are spinning round and round
A collection of poems I wrote for an English class assignment about The Great Gatsby.
